Faculty member of the Department of Information Technology (INTEC)
Ivo Couckuyt received his M.Sc. degree in Computer Science from the University of Antwerp (UA) in 2007.
In October 2007 he joined the research group Computer Modeling and Simulation (COMS) (now merged with CoMP), supported by a research project of the Fund for Scientific Research Flanders (FWO-Vlaanderen). Since January 2009 he is active as a PhD student in the research group Internet Technology and Data Science Lab (IDLab) at Ghent University, where he obtained the PhD degree in 2013. He is currently working as an FWO post-doctoral research fellow in the IDLab research group of the Department of Information Technology (INTEC) in the Faculty of Engineering at Ghent University, Belgium. Since September 2021, he started as assistant professor in the IDLab research group of Ghent University, working on automation in machine learning, data analytics, data-efficient machine learning and surrogate modeling algorithms.
- Data-efficient machine learning
- Surrogate modeling and its application to solve real world problems
- Optimization of expensive functions
- Inverse models
- Active learning and sampling strategies
I am also the main developer and project manager of the SUrrogate MOdeling (SUMO) Toolbox, used in many institutions for design space exploration and optimization.
