PhD position : Machine Learning and Data Analytics for IoT
SUMO Lab announces the opening of a PhD position in Machine Learning and Data Analytics for Internet of Things.
SUMO Lab is part of the IDLAB research group (http://idlab.ugent.be) of the Department of Information Technology (INTEC) at Ghent University, Belgium.
In today’s digital society, the Internet of Things (IoT) is producing significant quantities of data at an unprecedented rate. Gartner and ABI research predict that up to 30 billion devices will become equipped with sensors and internet communication infrastructure by 2020. The omnipresence of sensors and mobile devices causes an explosive growth of data that offers the potential for a revolutionary transformation in many sectors (e.g. smart energy, health care, factories of the future, predictive maintenance, domotics). The analysis of data coming from sensors and mobile devices using machine learning algorithms is nowadays still underexplored and offers a lot of exciting opportunies to enrich systems and make them smarter by running data-driven applications.
We are looking for Master degree candidates in electrical engineering, computer science, physics or mathematics. Strong interdisciplinary interest in machine learning, data science, modeling and simulation is required, and excellent programming skills (e.g. Matlab, Java) are highly desirable.
We offer fully paid 4 year PhD positions that can start immediately. The positions are funded by the Research Foundation – Flanders. The positions are open to applicants of any nationality with good knowledge of English and/or Dutch.
The tentative starting date of the position is between now and January 2019.
We invite interested applicants to send their CV, as well as a short summary of their research interests and motivation by e-mail to Prof. Dirk Deschrijver (dirk.deschrijver - @ - ugent.be) before 1 December 2018. Indicate “Application: PhD Researcher Machine Learning and Data Analytics for IoT” in the email subject. Note that all applications will be thoroughly screened in order to satisfy the high scientific standards of our research group.
